This memory of this Plaggenhütte gives an idea of the primitive conditions under which the bog settlers lived. As the first settlers, male servants often competed, who attracted the prospect of property and the exemption from taxes and military service to the moor. The replica of this peat plague hut may convey that. The huts were built from peat sod and served as dwelling until the land was drained and space was made for a stone building. This Plaggenhütte also commemorates a woman who lived in such a hut until her death in 1916 because she had given birth to an illegitimate child and was therefore expelled from the village community.
