The shortest bike tour in the Ammerland range is only around 30 kilometers long. Half of the tour is on the car-free small train path. The way back is on asphalt roads with little traffic via Osterscheps and Ekern. Therefore, the tour is very suitable for families with children. An ideal vantage point can be found on the small railway bridge, which was once used by trains, where you can make yourself comfortable on a bench.
Highlights:
- Kleinbahnwanderweg: From 1912 to 1991, the Kleinbahn commuted here from Edewechterdamm to Bad Zwischenahn over a distance of around twelve kilometers. The functions of the railway were to transport peat, which was then also used as fuel for locomotives, and to move cattle. The decades of profitable freight traffic decreased continuously, so that at the beginning of the 1990s the track systems were dismantled and a cycle path was installed.
- The coastal canal is an approximately 70 kilometer long federal waterway. The canal branches off from the Hunte in Oldenburg and meets the Dortmund-Ems canal at Dörpen.
- Oellien private garden (Osterscheps): The 5000 square meter garden with several places to sit and relax invites you to linger. A high weeping willow is framed by rhododendrons, azaleas, hostas and many perennials. In summer, many roses and dahlias put the garden in a sea of flowers. Birds and insects cavort on the natural pond with wooden deck, jetty and stream. Chickens and ornamental pheasants have their home in the adjacent wood.
- Ponyhof Neumann (Dänikhorst): The Dänikhorst adventure world offers a lot of fun for young and old. The children's train “Rio Grande Express” runs here and a refreshed playground awaits its guests. Pedal boats invite little captains to sail on the hotel's own lake.
