  • Destination: Bad Zwischenahn, Edewecht, Westerstede
The route is a successful round trip through all the landscape facets of the Ammerland and includes three of the most beautiful church paths away from any traffic - which are "gracious" to cyclists even in wet weather: the old church path from Westerstede to Gießelhorst, the particularly beautiful northern church path around the Zwischenahner Meer and the Torsholter Kirchweg through the southern wood.

The route has been one of the most popular circuits in the Ammerland for years. This is astonishing as the three long church paths are narrow stretches that can make it difficult for people to meet people. In addition, the church paths consist of unpaved paths with a water-bound cover and it does not roll as comfortably as on asphalt. The Kirchwege, from Gießelhorst to Westerstede, around the Zwischenahner Meer and from Torsholt through the Südholz, offer a unique landscape experience with natural rain protection through the trees that flank

Highlights RIGHT AND LEFT OF THE ROUTE

  • Landscape window Rhododendron (Gießelhorst): The observation tower of a Rhodo queen is located on the historic Gießelhorster Kirchweg. The tower is surrounded by rhododendrons that grow up to ten meters high.
  • The Lorenz von Ehren garden extends over 12,000 square meters and combines unique solitary trees with artistically cut topiary trees.
  • Park der Gärten  (Bad Zwischenahn): The largest model garden in Germany with over 90 themed gardens and plant collections and thus the showcase of the Ammerland tree nurseries.
  • Elmendorf Castle (Dreibergen) is a lost tower hill castle (Motte) in the Dreibergen nature reserve on the north shore of the Zwischenahner Sea. An on-site audio station provides information on the history of the castle.
  • The Bad Zwischenahn open-air museum was built in 1909 and 1910 from two former half-timbered houses. The 17 houses and outbuildings are perfectly integrated into the spa gardens. (Listening point at the old farmhouse)
  • According to legend, treasures are said to be buried in the hills on Burgplatz Mansingen (Westerstede), which no one has yet managed to raise. According to tradition, the devil is involved, who always lets the treasure chest crash into the depths just before it is lifted. (Listening station)
