From the rhododendron town of Westerstede to the origin of the rhododendron in the Rastede palace gardens.

The tour, which is around 57 kilometers long, takes you on longer, pleasant sections on asphalt and through beautiful moor and pasture areas, interrupted by two forest courses. For all friends of landscaped nature and long walks, we recommend the historic castle park in Rastede, which will soon be returned to its old historical state.

Highlights RIGHT AND LEFT OF THE ROUTE

  • The Hobbie Rhododendron Park (Linswege) of the Hobbie family is Germany's largest rhododendron park with 70 hectares and is now in the third generation of the family.
  • The Evangelical Lutheran St. John's Church in Wiefelstede in the Ammerland district goes back to the oldest church building in the Ammerland.
  • Schlosspark, Schloss und Palais (Rastede): The castle in Rastede was the residence of the counts and grand dukes of the Oldenburg family for a long time and is still family-owned today. The building is an example of Oldenburg classicism. The castle, which is not open to the public, is located in the middle of an English-style park landscape. Opposite the castle is the community-owned Erbprinzenpalais, which is now used for cultural events.
  • Rhododendron Park Bruns (Gristede): Under the protection of tall pines, more than 1000 rhododendrons and free-range azaleas present themselves here in many species and varieties.
  • Petri Church (Westerstede): The impressive church building with a 48 meter high tower is the city's landmark.
