The name of this route says it all - many lows and two channels

The ideal tour for lovers of the vast fen landscape. For around 37 kilometers you drive through a landscape that exudes an East Frisian rather than Ammerland flair. Lots of water trains accompany the cyclists on their journey: Aper Tief, Nordloher Tief, Barßeler Tief, Südgeorgsfehnkanal and Augustfehnkanal. On the way, the Aper put up two works of art in their favorite places.

Highlights:

  • Ham Museum in Apen: The oldest ham smokehouse in the Ammerland can be found in the center of Apen. Here the owner Arnd Müller leads visitors through the ham museum, in which he himself is still smoking ham in the ninth generation according to ancient tradition.
  • The nature reserve Aper Tief (Hengstforde) is the largest tidal watercourse in the Ammerland with direct access to the North Sea. This wetland and floodplain, newly created in 2005, fascinates with its daily changing moods and views. The artist Jörg Ridderbusch has created a memorial to the bluethroat, swamp, pond and reed warblers, field swirls and red thighs that breed in the Aper Tief in spring with no less than nine “rather weird” colorful birds. Another work of art with dancing sheep is located on Brückenweg directly opposite a refuge.
  • The "Landschaftsfenster" landscape window "Water" (Tange) is one of a total of five landscape windows in the Ammerland. The observation towers were built in 2002 and indicate the special features of the region. The "tower of the dike judge" in the district of Tange is a symbol of the region's abundance of water.
